Day 1

A day touring the scenic country roads and small villages of the Cowal Peninsula. Drive by Loch Eck acknowledged as one of Scotland 's most picturesque lochs with its water-side picnic spots. Visit Tighnabruiach with shore-line cafes and small Art Galleries or Castle Lachlan, a place to enjoy the shimmering sea loch at the foot of its ruins. Take any road on the Cowal Peninsula and there's a surprise around every corner.

Day 2

A day on the Isle of Bute. Take a very short ferry trip from Colintraive to Rhubodach and enjoy the delights of this multi-faceted small island. Visit Rothesay with its ancient Castle, splendid examples of Victorian architecture and award-winning Visitor Centre. Walk along woodland tracks and broad sandy beaches whilst watching the seals basking on the rocks. A 'must' is a visit to Mount Stuart House and Gardens, one of Britain 's finest stately homes and a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic imagination.

Day 3

A day in Glasgow. Shop till you drop. Visit superb museums, art galleries, witness and savour the architecture, heritage and character of this great award winning city.

Day 4

Adventure - a day for the thrill-seekers! How about Quadmania, River Rocket or proAdventure (see our activities section).

Or for the country sportsman - some local loch or sea fishing perhaps.

Or for the drivers day off - a cruise on the Waverley, the last sea-going Paddle- steamer in the world.

Day 5

The delights of Oban and Inveraray are all well within a comfortable day trip. Visit the Jail and Castle at Inveraray. Visit the distillery, sealife centre and Highland Wildlife park at Oban. If you have time visit the village of Kilmartin, Argyll: There are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius - 150 of them are prehistoric. And a 'must stop' is at Loch Fyne Oysters - experience the real thing in the restaurant - as well as browse a fantastic gift shop!

Day 6

Some gentle, or more challenging leisure:-

  • For the walkers- a day at Argyll Forest Park, part of the Loch Lomond National Park, or one of the many Cowal Walks ranging from a gentle stroll to a strenuous hike!.

  • For the golfers - choose 18 holes at Cowal Golf Club or 9 holes at Innellan or Strone and even if your have an off day the spectacular views will compensate! Further afield try the Championship Courses at Machrihanish or Troon.

  • For the cyclists - hire a bike and choose from our wealth of quiet unspoilt country roads, hill routes and lanes.

  • For the fitness enthusiast - a day, or a good part of it - at the Riverside Leisure Centre

Day 7

Visit the glorious gardens of Argyll. With 10 gardens within 2 hours drive from Dunoon - you are spoilt for choice! The closest at Benmore (7 miles from Dunoon) has 140 acres renowned for the wide collection of trees and shrubs, which includes over 250 species of rhododendrons. One of the most spectacular views is the avenue of Giant Redwood trees, which greets every visitor on entering the garden.

The Ardkinglas Woodland Garden contains one of the finest collections of conifers in the British Isles including the Mightiest Conifer in Europe and the tallest tree in Britain measured by plumb line.
