Burns Night at Abbots Brae
Robert Burns was born on 25th January 1759 at Alloway - just a short distance across the River Clyde.
Burns's first published book of poetry, chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, was printed in 1786 and cost three shillings. The entire print run sold out within a month!
He moved to Edinburgh where his popularity grew. He later returned to Dunfriesshire where he died at the young age of 37.
His birth date is now celebrated across the world with recitals of his poetry and songs.
